Treorchy-based business, Kim & Flo adds a touch of magic to Bute Street tea room and gift shop, thanks to a start up loan from.

Kimberly Haddrell opened Kim & Flo a specialist tea room based on Bute Street, Treorchy earlier this year, after receiving a £5,000 loan via support from Business in Focus – an official delivery partner for the Start Up Loans Company.

The Start Up Loan scheme offers low interest personal loans to help start new businesses, or for businesses under 2 years old which need funding to grow.

Kim & Flo sells ethically sourced teas and coffees, homemade cakes and savoury snacks, and a special themed range of afternoon teas. The themed afternoon teas range from Alice in Wonderland and Willy Wonka to Harry Potter, which is in keeping with the tea room’s decor.

All cakes are baked on site, and a full range of healthy options are provided. The tea room also sells gifts ranging from Star Wars and comic book merchandise to locally made crafts.

Kim said; “The ethos of the shop is to sell good quality homemade cakes, ethically sourced teas and coffees. We want to create an environment that local people can enjoy.”

In 6 months Kim & Flo has achieved sales of c£19k and are now looking to employ their first employee.

Kim said; “I am extremely grateful for the support I have received from Business in Focus and the funding they helped us to access.”

More recently Kim has been approached by two other local shops to sell her produce, and this is now generating additional weekly sales of c£200 with scope to grow.
