Mon Aquatics is a family run aquatic pet shop located on the Isle Anglesey in the town of Holyhead.
Why did you decide to set up your own business?
I decided to start my business now as I could see a need for it in Holyhead. I have recently moved to the area and can see there is scope for my business to thrive and grow.
I set out to be the go to shop for all aquatic needs for customers in my local area also to supply customers further afield over the internet.
What challenges did you face?
Lack of funds was my main challenge as I have the experience and knowledge to succeed in this field. Setting up a business plan also presented a challenge and I was glad to receive support from local charity Mon CF and my Start Up Loans advisor, Steve. Steve was fantastic, very responsive, kept me informed every step of the way with updates and time scales and he made the whole process quick, easy and stress free (as much as it can be).
How has your business progressed?
I had previously made an application for a loan to another company that was rejected, this posed a concern as it made me question whether or not my plan was sound. I pushed on and I’m thankful my plan was accepted by Start Up Loans as without it I could not have moved forward on this journey. Looking to the future I plan to open more shops in north wales and build on my business.
